Our operation relies on our great relationships with reputable and proven successful tour operators. You can think of Pura Vida! eh? as the handy middle-man between you and what you want to do during your trip to Costa Rica. As a result of our relationships with the tour operating companies we choose to promote on our websites, these companies allow us to offer a wide variety of Costa Rican day tours at discounted rates.

How can travellers take advantage of the discounted rates and/or cash back savings that Pura Vida! eh? offers?

Gaining access to discounts and/or cash back savings for Costa Rica day tours is easy! Simply make a reservation for a tour online by completing tour reservation form. Indicate what you would like us to reserve on your behalf, and by allowing us to do so, the discounted rates or cash back savings associated with the item (as advertised on our websites) are yours!

Does it cost travellers anything to make a reservation through Pura Vida! eh?

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Since we are not a travel agency (we do not “sell” anything, we simply work with you to locate and obtain great savings), we do not charge any service fees for our time answering your tour-related questions and/or making day tour reservations on your behalf. We also do not charge any other hidden fees or commissions for carrying out our services. In fact, we do not charge travellers anything… at all! Pura Vida! eh? is a 100% FREE SERVICE for travellers. We provide you with all you need for your trip–plenty of insightful information regarding where to go, what to do, and what to see while in Costa Rica, recommendations backing which companies to trust, discounted rates and/or cash back savings for Costa Rica tours, ease and comfort handling reservations on your behalf, and overall trip security throughout the entire process. And, YOU PAY US NOTHING! 🙂

Pura Vida! eh? sounds too good to be true . . . what’s in it for you?

Pura Vida! eh? is financially compensated by Costa Rican tour operators for the advertising services it provides. As a result, income received by Pura Vida! eh? comes from other corporations–not travellers. We support Costa Rican businesses by offering their tours (when they have earned our interest in doing so) and this sends travellers to Costa Rica with more money in their pocket!

Will I have to provide Pura Vida! eh? with payment and/or credit card information?

NO! Pura vida! eh? never collects such personal information from travellers as the majority of other companies do. We are just as cautious of credit card fraud as most travellers are, so in order to eliminate the risk we do not ask travellers to provide us with this information. By not requesting these details we hope to assure travellers that our number one goal is to help them save money, not risk losing it. We are confident that not asking for travellers’ credit card information helps build credibility and trust. This being said, travellers may have to provide their credit card information to tour operators depending on the exact items they choose for their trip. Many companies in Costa Rica require this information to guarantee reservations (we work with many companies who accept cash payment although others require a credit card guarantee and/or prepayment). Please note that this is not a Pura Vida! eh? requirement–it is a mandate by some Costa Rican tour operators according to their own specific policies. As a traveller, when a particular day tour is selected through an operator that requests credit card information, this information is provided directly to the Costa Rican operator (not Pura Vida! eh?) and would be required regardless of whether the item was reserved through us or directly through the tour operator. Can I access the cheaper rates/discounts/cash back savings without making a reservation through Pura Vida! eh?

Unfortunately, no. We have negotiated our rates with the Costa Rican companies we choose to work with and in order for travellers to access the discounts and/or cash back savings for any trip item that we offer we must send in the reservation request for it on your behalf.

What if I am interested in receiving discounts and/or cash back savings for items not listed on the Pura Vida! eh? website?

If you are interested in a day tour that is not currently included in our Costa Rica tour discounts database, please send us an email to inform us of the item you are looking for. We could very well offer discounts and/or cash back savings for it as it could be the case that we have not yet had a chance to add the item to our website. However, please note that we have very specific criteria for choosing to offer specific tours to travellers. If it is the case that the tour you are interested in does not meet our requirements for being an item that we would feel comfortable promoting to travellers, we will be unable to process your request. We regularly work to find the best day tours that Costa Rica has to offer, and we have limited our selection of the tours we opt to advertise on our websites for a reason–to provide travellers with trip items that we feel offer the best possible travel experiences. Based on this belief, there may be a specific reason why we are not currently offering the exact tour you are looking for, however we invite you to describe the item you are interested in and we can go from there as far as letting you know if we can offer it and whether or not discounts and/or cash back savings would be available.

What if I have already reserved my day tours? Is it too late to receive your discounts and/or cash back savings?

Unfortunately, yes. The discounts and cash back savings outlined on our website are for new reservations only (unfortunately our discounts and cash back savings cannot be applied retroactively). Tourism in Costa Rica is competitive (sharks are not limited to the pacific ocean here!), and as a result, we prefer not to step on the toes of other businesses. Sure, we would love to be able to apply our discounts and cash back savings to any and all day tour reservations, however most tour operators will consider you to be their client (not ours) once you have established direct contact with them. Since the discounts and cash back savings are available to travellers who book through Pura Vida! eh? only, they cannot be applied once another company views you as theirs (and with good reason, we would hate to “steal” travellers away from other companies that have already invested time and energy helping arrange potential travel plans). Of course, If you have already reserved some but not all of your trip items, we would be happy to allow you to access our discounts and/or cash back savings for any day tours that have not yet been booked elsewhere.

How will I know where to go for my tour, what my tour pick-up times will be, and/or other important information about my reservation(s)?

All of the information travellers will need in regards to their day tour reservations will be provided to them on their Pura Vida! eh? confirmation vouchers (our confirmation vouchers are issued once day tour reservations have been made and guaranteed). Some of these details include confirmation numbers, tour pick-up times and locations, reservation cancellation information, company contact information, recommendations as to what to bring with you during each tour, and a re-confirmation of any items and/or meals included with each booking. Of course, if you have additional questions after receiving and reviewing the content on the confirmation vouchers you can contact us at any time as we would be more than happy to answer them for you.

Does Pura Vida! eh? reserve my tours for me? Or do I do that directly?

Sit back and relax! We operate by taking care of all day tour reservations for travellers (this saves travellers from having to contact each tour operator individually when planning your trip). For a step by step explanation of our operation, please see our “How Pura Vida! eh? Works” page.

When I reserve day tours through Pura Vida! eh? Inc. what is the cancellation policy?

Fortunately for travellers, we do not have a cancellation policy of our own. We know that life happens and changes need to be made last minute, so we do not mind if clients need to cancel their plans suddenly. We also do not charge clients any penalty for making such cancellations. Please note, however, that although we do not enforce a cancellation policy of our own, we are required to enforce the cancellation policies of each tour operator. As a result, when travellers make reservations through Pura Vida! eh? they agree to abide by the specific cancellation policies created by the tour operators they have chosen for their vacation. This is because travellers do not purchase day tours from us–they pay tour operators directly. Assume, for example, that a canopy tour company says they require 24 hours notice for cancellations without penalty. If you choose this day tour item for your vacation, you would be required to provide the appropriate number of days notice as indicated by the tour operator (i.e., 1 day to cancel the canopy tour) in order to avoid any cancellation penalties. In addition, when travellers make reservations through Pura Vida! eh? they agree to accept the repercussions of failing to give due notice to tour operators if they do not cancel reservations within the penalty-free window specified by each company. Specific cancellation policies can be found (prior to or after making reservations through Pura Vida! eh?) on the websites of most tour operators, however for convenience purposes, we provide access to copies here.

Should/must I reserve day tours in advance? How much time is required?

Since many companies in Costa Rica require credit card information ahead of time in order to guarantee reservations (some of which charge your card for prepayment while others simply request the information as a guarantee to hold the reservation but allow you to pay in cash upon arrival if you would prefer to do so), it is most advantageous for clients to take care of any tour operator credit card authorization forms prior to coming to Costa Rica. We often work with clients who prefer to wait to reserve their day tours until they are in Costa Rica, and while we will certainly do our best to accept and accommodate last-minute requests, most travellers then find themselves scurrying around to find an internet cafe to print credit card authorization forms and locating a fax machine or scanner to send the forms back to the tour operating companies. Since credit card authorization forms are a requirement of many tourism companies in Costa Rica, travellers will need to send in these forms in order for their reservations to be guaranteed. From home, taking care of the forms is quite simple as we provide travellers with the forms required by the tour operators chosen for their trip, as well as details explaining the process of returning the forms to the Costa Rican companies directly. Although taking care of these forms from within Costa Rica is possible (travellers do it all of the time), we recommend reserving day tours ahead of time from home to avoid being bothered by the work while on vacation. In addition, we also suggest reserving items ahead of time to ensure availability (especially for day tours during busier months of travel). For those travellers who plan to wait to reserve their activities once they are in Costa Rica (assuming there is availability for the desired tour date and time at that point), please reference our “Request Deadlines” page to learn how last-minute we are able to accept reservation requests according to the time of year you plan to travel.

What if I am unsure of my travel dates?

If you are unsure of your travel dates unfortunately you cannot make reservations through Pura Vida! eh?. All tour operators require travel dates when accepting reservations which makes it impossible for us to reserve any tour without confirmed dates. If your travel dates are not yet decided upon, the best thing to do is to wait to place your reservations until these have been set. Of course, if you are leaning towards a few different date options, you can still contact us for assistance and help preparing your reservations, the reservation requests simply cannot officially be sent in to the tour operators until your travel dates have been confirmed.

What if I want to modify a reservation (change a date/time) but not cancel it entirely?

In true “pura vida” style, we understand that plans change and we will work to accommodate whichever modifications you need to make to your reservations. Prior to coming to Costa Rica, this is almost never an issue (provided there is still availability for the changes you wish to make at that time) as we can provide tour operators with advance notice of your change requests. For last-minute changes once you are in Costa Rica, the companies we choose to work with are often quite accommodating if/when travellers need to make modifications, however each is subject to the specific cancellation policy of the tour operator at that time (i.e., if reservation changes are not requested within the accepted period as noted by the tour operator according to their policy, we will be unable to accommodate your request without them issuing a penalty).

Does Pura Vida! eh? have a payment policy? If so, what is it?

Fortunately for travellers, we do not have a payment policy of our own. Please note, however, that although we do not enforce a payment policy of our own we are required to enforce the payment policy of each tour operator. Please see our “Policies” page for more information.

Why are all Pura Vida! eh? website item prices listed in US funds? Is it possible to pay in CAD, Euros, Costa Rican Colon, or other currencies?

Payments in USD (and the local currency–the Costa Rican Colon) are accepted, however unfortunately payments in other currencies is extremely rare (unless you happen to reserve trip items with a company with international connections). Catering to a large majority of North American travellers, since most tour operators quote original prices in US funds, we follow suit with the rates advertised on our websites.

What if I do not have a credit card?

Unfortunately, if you do not have a credit card, many tour operators will not accept reservation requests. This being said, we work with many companies who will accept international bank/wire transfers as prepayments. If you do not have a credit card, please inform us of this in advance so we can make special arrangements for you to pay for your day tours via this method of payment.

What type of currency should I bring to Costa Rica (to pay for my day tours that do not require advance payment?)

USD is widely accepted throughout Costa Rica (CAD is not accepted, and Euros are only rarely accepted in some locations). Most items are priced in USD (otherwise in Costa Rican colones), and the majority of tourism-related services are paid for in USD (if not by credit card). What are Pura Vida! eh? confirmation vouchers?

Our Pura Vida! eh? confirmation vouchers are a traveller’s proof of the reservation(s) we have made on their behalf. The vouchers themselves are reservation confirmations, noting exact tour dates, pick-up times, confirmation numbers, and other important details travellers will need to know about their reservation(s). Where discounts are available, our vouchers are also travellers proof of our lower rates. Clients receive the confirmation vouchers after reservations have been made through Pura Vida! eh? (either by submitting one or more of our online tour reservation forms). One confirmation voucher is provided for each day tour reserved.

How do I receive Pura Vida! eh? confirmation vouchers?

Our Pura Vida! eh? confirmation vouchers are available online (they can also be acquired via PDF so you can save and print a hard copy for your trip if you would prefer to do so). Once any/all reservations have been placed and guaranteed we send travellers a link to the password-protected area of our website that we have created specifically for their vacation (if you will be travelling to Costa Rica with a smartphone or other internet-enabled device, you can access the information we send you at any time). To save paper, electronic copies of the confirmation vouchers are accepted by the Costa Rican companies we choose to work with, however as mentioned above, these can also be printed if you would prefer to do so.

Can I access the discounts and/or cash back savings without making a reservation?

Unfortunately, no. Since our Pura Vida! eh? vouchers are actual reservation confirmations, the vouchers are provided only after reservations have been made and guaranteed. In addition, since the confirmation vouchers are travellers’ proof of our discounted rates, advance reservations are required in order for our Pura Vida! eh? team to officially reserve day tours on a traveller’s behalf.

Is there a cost to either access the discounts/cash back savings or to obtain Pura Vida! eh? confirmation vouchers?

NO! Our Pura Vida! eh? confirmation vouchers as well as access to our discounts and cash back savings are all 100% FREE! The only cost associated with the confirmation vouchers is the cost of the reservation itself. For example, if you request that we reserve a white water rafting day tour at our discounted rate, you pay nothing for our service to make the reservation on your behalf and nothing to access our discounted rate, you simply pay the tour operator the cost of the white water rafting tour (of course, at our lower rate!).
