      Hi Michele B!

Great question! Can I ask you for a favor? If you’re a member of our DIY Costa Rica site, would you mind re-posting your question above on our forum over on that website? (You can find the forum here: https://www.diycostarica.com/diy-costa-rica-forum/). That’s the forum where we can answer all kinds of Costa Rica travel questions, including questions about itinerary-building. This particular forum, on our Pura Vida! eh? website, is specific to queries regarding our Pura Vida! eh? discounts. Thank you so much for your understanding! 🙂

        Hi Stefanie!

Thanks so much for your interest in our discounts! 🙂

I can confirm that your account was registered successfully, but the account status was set to “inactive” during registration for some reason. Maybe there was a glitch on the site when you registered? At any rate, I’ve just changed the account status to “active”, so you should be able to log in okay using the credentials you selected when you first registered. 👍

          Hey Eyal!

Thanks so much for checking in about this! The discount is still available, and Mapache is typically fairly quick to respond. What email address did you use when you tried reaching out to them?

          Until soon! 🙂

            Hi Ahuva!

Just to check, which specific tour/activity are you interested in experiencing in San Jose? Also, there are a few Holiday Inn hotels around San Jose. Would you mind confirming the exact full name of the specific one you’re staying at?

            Thank you! 🙂

                Hi Bo!

Thanks so much for your comment and for letting us know. I just re-sent you our two emails, in case they were missed previously. The first was our automated message that simply confirmed that we had begun processing your order. The second was an update regarding one of the two discounts included with your order. If, for some reason, you didn’t receive either or both of those messages, simply comment back here to let us know and I can try sending them to you a different way.

                  Hi again, Sally! 🙂

                  Just a quick update:

We’ve received a notice from PayPal explaining that the e-cheque payment you submitted to them for payment for a Pura Vida! eh? membership was canceled. Like the e-cheque payment you submitted to PayPal for access to our DIY Costa Rica site, I’m not sure if this second payment was canceled by you or if PayPal canceled the payment due to an issue with the cheque, but to confirm, no funds reached us for payment for the Pura Vida! eh? membership. 🙁

                  Pura vida!

                    Hi Kurt!

Thanks so much for reaching out! And, please thank your friend for us for their positive recommendation! 🙂 I’m happy to answer your questions.

To start, you’re absolutely correct–the membership level you purchase depends on the number of tours you want to experience. When counting experiences, please only count experiences for which we can provide a discount. (You can search our discount database here to learn which discounts we have.) For example, if you want to do a white-water rafting tour, a zip-lining tour, and a scuba diving tour during your trip, but our discount database only has discounts in stock for the white-water rafting tour and the zip-lining tour that you want, not the scuba diving tour, the number of tour discounts that you’d like to access would be counted as two, not three.

Once you decide how many tour discounts you’d like to access and you purchase the corresponding membership level via PayPal, you can place an order for those discounts through our website. You do that by visiting the tour’s listing page on our website (so, the white-water rafting tour page or the zip-lining tour page, for example) and adding the discount to your “cart”. You get to choose which exact tours you experience, the tour dates and tour times (when applicable) for those activities, the number of people who want to do the tour, etc. You’re essentially booking the tour directly through the tour operator, but as a result of being a Pura Vida! eh? member, the cost you’ll pay the tour operators for their tours will be less (i.e., our discounted rates).

                    Pura vida! 🙂

                      Hey Sam!

Thanks so much for your response. 🙂

If you’re planning on staying in Monteverde afterward (i.e., not returning to Playas del Coco), I’d actually advise against taking the day tour to Monteverde from Playas del Coco, to save you a ton of money. With the Monteverde day tour option from Playas del Coco, it is possible to stay in Monteverde afterward (and not return to Playas del Coco), but the cost of the tour will include transportation back to Playas del Coco, so you’ll essentially be paying for that service that you don’t use. The itinerary for the day includes a trip to the Selvatura Park to tour the hanging bridges and check out some of the on-site exhibits there (the butterfly garden and reptile exhibit), but you can just as easily book your own one-way transportation service from Playas del Coco to Monteverde (such as a shared shuttle service), then plan to visit the Selvatura Park once you get to Monteverde. (Those two items–shuttle transportation and activities at Selvatura–will be much cheaper than the cost of the day tour from Playas del Coco.) It’s also worth mentioning that the day trip to Monteverde to/from Playas del Coco is geared more toward groups (I’m not sure how many people you plan to travel with) and requires a minimum of 6 people to run. When that minimum number of 6 people isn’t met, the 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 people who want to do the tour need to pay more to cover the difference, which can quickly make the entire day trip experience a lot more expensive. 🙁

                        Hi Antonia!

They do! The Monteverde Villa Lodge is considered a “Monteverde hotel” by tour operators, so transportation is an option to/from that property. As you note, Sky Adventures is a tour operator that charges extra for transportation to/from Monteverde hotels, so their $10.00 plus tax round-trip transportation cost will apply. (Their optional transportation add-on of $10.00 is per person, so for a group of 4 people, the round-trip cost would be $40.00 plus tax.)

                          Hi Sally! 🙂

Thanks so much for your interest in our discounts, and for your patience while our website underwent some changes over the past few days.

I can confirm that our discounts are valid for 2023! It’s strange that some pages are still showing as 2022; perhaps the browser hasn’t updated them? They show as 2023 on our end, so I’m not sure why they wouldn’t appear that way to all visitors. Anyway, yes, we can still help with discounts for the 2023 season! 🙂

With respect to the Pura Vida! eh? account registration link, I just pulled up your account to obtain a copy of the link to email to you, and what I found is that the registration link didn’t go out automatically (and hasn’t even been created yet) because the funds haven’t come through PayPal yet. I thought that was a bit strange because PayPal payments typically come through instantly, but when I dug into the issue a little further, I learned that you paid PayPal via an e-cheque (as opposed to a debit or credit card), and apparently doing so caused a delay with PayPal. PayPal says that the funds are scheduled to be processed on June 7th. Assuming the cheque clears, the registration link will be auto-created and auto-sent to you at that time.

As a side note, as I was reviewing our PayPal account, I saw that you made a separate payment for our DIY Costa Rica project. That payment was submitted on May 24th by e-cheque as well, and PayPal held it in a “pending” state until today, when the payment was ultimately canceled. I’m not sure if you canceled the payment on your end or if PayPal canceled the payment due to an issue with the cheque, but to confirm, no funds reached us for payment for DIY Costa Rica access, and that’s the reason why you wouldn’t have received a registration link to set up an account over on our DIY Costa Rica website.

In moving forward from here, unfortunately, we can’t begin processing an order for discounts until a payment arrives (the payment triggers the account registration link to go out, and an active account is required to place an order for discounts), so we have two options:

For one, we can wait until tomorrow, which is when PayPal is anticipating the e-cheque funds will clear. Assuming the funds come through okay, you’ll be able to register your Pura Vida! eh? account and submit an order for discounts, provided the discounts you want are for dates that aren’t within the next 10 days.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to wait until tomorrow to see if the cheque clears, or you are in need of discounts for dates within the next 10 days, we can leave things as is, and not place an order for discounts for your trip. In this case, you can either go ahead and cancel the e-cheque payment that you originally sent, or, if doing so isn’t an option on your end because the payment is already in process, we can wait to see if the funds come through tomorrow, and if they do, we’ll happily refund them to you. At this point in time, we’re not able to issue you a refund for any funds because we haven’t received any payments from you yet.

Of course, however you’d prefer to proceed here is okay with us! 🙂

                          Until soon,

                            Hey Zed!

Thanks so much for your interest in our discounts! The discounts are still valid. The dates you may have spotted online are the dates that the discounts were originally posted, but so long as they appear as “in stock” on our website, they’re still active. 🙂

With respect to discount processing, we are able to process orders quickly, but the arrangement we have with several of our tour operator partners is that travelers must pay for their tours a certain number of days in advance. The 10-day requirement allows enough time for us to process the order, for the tour operator to confirm the tour(s), and for the traveler to pay for the tour(s) in however many days the tour operator needs them to pay in advance. This arrangement applies year-round, including for low-season months like June, so unfortunately we won’t be able to provide you with discounts for tours taken within the next 10 days. 🙁 Of course, if you plan to be in the country for a while and want to access discounts for tours taken on dates that are 11 or more days from now, don’t hesitate to let us know because we’d be more than happy to help you in that case.

                            Pura vida! 🙂

Thanks so much for letting us know! Some email systems go so far as to block our automated account registration emails entirely if they think they’re spam, so that’s likely what happened. I just sent you a separate email containing the account registration link. If, for some reason, you don’t receive that email either, simply report back here to let me know and I can register your account for you on our end. 🙂

I am happy to answer your questions for you, but I have a quick favor to ask:

I noticed that you are a member of our DIY Costa Rica website. Would you mind re-posting your question above on our Q&A Forum over on that website? (You can find the forum here: https://www.diycostarica.com/diy-costa-rica-forum/). On that private forum, we can answer all kinds of general Costa Rica travel questions. This particular forum, which is public on our Pura Vida! eh? website, is specific to queries regarding orders placed through Pura Vida! eh? and/or our Pura Vida! eh? discounts.

Again, I’m happy to answer your questions for you, I just want to make sure that they get posted in a place where we’re able to respond to them. 🙂

                                Thank you!

                                  Hi Dennis!

Thanks so much for checking in about this! The account registration email gets sent out automatically following PayPal payment, and usually doesn’t take longer than 10 minutes to arrive, so you should have received it by now. Often, email providers will file the email into an unexpected folder (some people say it ends up in their junk or trash folders, and others have said it ends up in their “Promotions” folder, whatever that is). Because the registration email contains a registration link, sometimes email providers will view that as spam and block the message altogether if they don’t recognize our system as the sender. At any rate, I can easily email you with a copy of the registration link. I’ve done that already, and I can see that you’ve registered your account and submitted an order successfully, so I believe we’re all set! If you have any further trouble with your account, don’t hesitate to let me know and I’ll do my best to help.

                                  Pura vida! 🙂
