      Hi Juliet!

Thanks so much for your interest! 🙂 I’m happy to answer your questions.

The custom membership level is for individuals who want to access either more tour discounts than what our five main memberships cover, or tour discounts for a greater number of people than what our five main membership levels cover. About two-thirds of the way down this page on our website, you’ll see a chart that outlines the number of people and the number of tour discounts that each of our five main memberships cover. If the size of your travel group and the number of tour discounts that you want to access exceed the parameters of our five main memberships, I can provide a custom membership quote in that case. For example, if your travel group is comprised of 8 individuals and you want to access 4 tour discounts for your trip, that combination would require a custom membership. All I’ll need to know from you to provide a custom membership quote is the total number of people in your travel group and the total number of tour discounts that you want to access.

        Hey Adrienne!

Thanks so much for your interest! 🙂 The rafting tour operator is typically pretty quick at processing our requests, so if you’re able to submit the request by midday tomorrow (Saturday), we can squeeze in the request for you for a November 9th date.

When you go to select the date when placing an order, our website won’t allow you to select the date of November 9th because that date is within the next 10 days, but you can just manually type in the date, or else you can select any date on the calendar and then specify in the notes box on the checkout screen that the correct date should be November 9th. Please also specify in the notes box on the checkout screen where you plan to stay in Cocles and downtown San Jose.

          Hi Chaya!

No problem at all! The order has been processed on our end. (You should have received an automated email from us about that.) Please keep an eye on your inbox because we’ll send you another message explaining the next steps once the Springs Resort gets back to us.

          Until soon!

            Hi Chaya!

Thanks so much for your interest! 🙂 Our website doesn’t count today’s date, so in this case, since it’s November 3rd, the soonest we’d be able to offer a discounted hot springs pass would be November 13th. That said, if you’re able to submit the request by the end of the day today, we can squeeze in the request for you for a November 12th date. When you go to select the date when placing an order, our website won’t allow you to select the date of November 12th because that’s within the next 10 days, but you can just manually type in the date, or else you can select the date of November 13th on the calendar and then specify in the notes box on the checkout screen that the correct date should be November 12th.

              Hi Paris!

Thanks so much for your interest in our discounts! Quick question: which specific tour/activity do you have in mind?

              Until soon! 🙂

                Hola Denise!

We’ve been in touch via email since you originally posted your comment above, but I thought I’d respond to it anyway with some general information in case other travelers stumble across this page. 🙂

To confirm, Pura Vida! eh? Inc. only handles tour discounts (we don’t handle transportation-specific arrangements), so the transportation-specific travel questions you posed above are best answered by Desafio Adventure Company, who can make transportation reservations for you. The only exceptions to this rule are day tours that include transportation between two cities. If we offer a discount for that kind of a tour, we can process the day tour request (and field questions about it), which automatically includes the transportation element.

                Pura vida! 🙂

                  Hi Susi!

Exploradores Outdoors (the rafting tour operator) doesn’t charge extra to provide travelers with transportation between San Jose and La Fortuna, although sometimes pick-up or drop-off fees are charged depending on the exact hotels you stay at. When you say “San Jose airport hotel”, which specific hotel are you staying at? Also, whereabouts in La Fortuna will you be staying?

If you’d rather drive yourselves to/from the river, we have a discount for that option as well. (It is less expensive overall.) I’ll link it for you below:

                        Hi Kayci!

Thanks so much for your great questions! Tax (13%) is applied during checkout, so the discounted rates you see while browsing our website are the prices before tax.

Regarding Club Rio, unfortunately, the Springs Resort (owner/operator of Club Rio) has
decided to stop offering packages for the 2024 season (beginning mid-December 2023), so the Multi-Adventure Package unfortunately won’t be an option to anyone next year. 🙁 Club Rio is remaining open, but anyone interested in participating in activities there (e.g., horseback riding, river tubing, river kayaking, visiting the wildlife sanctuary, or rock climbing) will need to reserve/purchase those activities separately.

It’s also worth noting that during the 2024 season, access to Club Rio will no longer include access to the hot springs and pools at the Springs Resort, so in order to access those, a Springs Resort Hot Springs Pass will need to be purchased. The biggest change coming to the Springs Resort Hot Springs Pass for the 2024 season is that the pass will no longer include a meal. It will still include the second free day of access, though.

                        So, to sum up:

-It is not possible to reserve the Club Rio Multi-Adventure Package
-It is possible to reserve activities at Club Rio, but each will be treated as a separate tour reservation, and none of those tours will include a meal or access to the pools and hot springs up at the resort
-It is still possible to reserve a Springs Resort Hot Springs Pass, which will include a second consecutive day of access to the resort’s pools and hot springs for free, but no meal on either day

You can find our discount for the Springs Resort Hot Springs Pass via the link below, in case you’re interested in that option:

Springs Resort Hot Springs Pass discount

Note that because they’ve decided to remove the meal from their hot springs pass, the Springs Resort will be reducing the cost of their hot springs pass for the 2024 season. Our website will update to show that new price near the end of December (it currently shows the higher price because that’s the current rate for the 2023 season pass, which includes a meal), when the 2024 season officially begins. In the meantime, I can let you know that our new discounted rate for the Springs Resort Hot Springs Pass for the 2024 season will be $80.00 plus tax per person. (A higher rate applies for visits to the resort on peak season dates.) To confirm, should you decide to order our discount for the Springs Resort Hot Springs Pass now (for a visit during the 2024 season), although our website shows the current discounted rate for the pass, the order will be processed at the lower, 2024 season discounted rate. 🙂

Thank you so much for your interest in our discounts! 🙂

We have agreements with some of our tour operator partners that require us to provide them with a set number of days’ notice in order for them to accept our discounts, so requests within the 10-day window may not be possible. A few questions for you: 1) Are you already in Costa Rica? 2) Which specific tour discount(s) are you interested in, and for use on which dates?

                            Until soon!

                              Hi again Debby! 🙂

Great question! We don’t have a cancelation policy of our own, we simply enforce the cancelation policies of the individual tour operators. So, the cancelation policies that will apply will depend on the exact tours you want to experience, and which tour operators run those tours.

For example, if you’re considering participating in a canyoning tour and the canyoning tour operator requires 48 hours’ notice to accept cancelations without penalty, that’s the cancelation policy that would apply if you opt to use our discount for their canyoning tour.

You’re correct, to access 1 tour discount for a total of 12 people, you’d need a Level 10 membership. When you go to place your order for the discount, to confirm, there’s no need to split the order into two groups of 6 people. You can place the order for 1 tour for all 12 people.

If you have any other questions about the membership levelsn, just let me know how I can help.

                                  Hi Claire!

Thanks so much for your interest in our Pacuare River rafting discount. 🙂

To answer your question, yes! Exploradores Outdoors does offer complimentary transportation between San Jose and La Fortuna. (Just be sure to indicate that when you order the discount for the tour.) The only hiccup will be with your pick-up place. Transportation is typically provided from hotels in downtown San Jose. Exceptions to this are the Hampton Inn & Suites and the Holiday Inn Express, which are neighboring hotels about a 2-minute drive from the SJO Airport, near the city of Alajuela. If you stay at either of these hotels, the rafting tour operator can pick you up there for free. Alternatively, you can stay elsewhere in the city of Alajuela (if you don’t want to travel all the way in to downtown San Jose), you’ll just need to arrange for a taxi to transport you from wherever you plan to stay in Alajuela to the Hampton Inn & Suites on the morning of your rafting tour.

For water levels, these depend entirely on rainfall amounts received, usually in the days leading up to a rafting date, including the night before a rafting tour. It’s difficult to predict, but regardless, the Pacuare River Rafting Tour is a fun trip to make year-round. Here’s some helpful info that we provide in our related blog post, Your Costa Rica Rafting Tour Questions Answered: https://costaricatravelblog.com/costa-rica-rafting-tour-questions/

When is the best time of year to go rafting in Costa Rica?
If we considered, on average, all of Costa Rica’s class III/IV rivers for white-water rafting and gave the water/rapid level a score between 1 and 10 (1 being the lowest level we have seen and 10 being the highest level we have seen), this is what to expect from month to month:
                                  January: 5
                                  February: 3 or 4
                                  March: 2 or 3
April (first few weeks, depending on whether the rain/green season starts early or late): 1
April (the last week, depending on whether the rain/green season starts early or late): 5
                                  May: 5 or 6
                                  June: 5
                                  July: 5
                                  August: 5
                                  September: 6
                                  October: 7, 8, or 9
                                  November: 8, 9, or 10
December (first few weeks, depending on whether the dry/summer season starts early or late): 8
December (last few weeks, depending on whether the dry/summer season starts early or late): 5
