Hola, Nikki & Ricky. Our family of 6 will be spending Thanksgiving at Arenal Observatory and your discounted offer of a full day of zip lining, bridge crossing, and aerial tramming is hard to pass up. There should be enough time to book our family, and we have a few questions: because we’re birders by nature, we feel the walking part of the tour will offer great sightings. Is the zip line adventure done first? That would be our preference because we could then walk the trails leisurely with (or after) the guided walk. One more thing: our youngest step-grandchild is turning 13 on Thanksgiving, and will still be 12 when we’re interested in booking (either 11/23 or 11/24). Will she be priced as an adult or child? Best to you both for a truly remarkable site and we hope you benefit substantially from our potential booking. -Joseph Viani

          Good morning Joseph!

Thank you so much for your interest in our discount! 🙂

Whether or not you will experience the zip-lining tour or the hanging bridges tour first depends on which tour time you select, and the tour operator’s availability for that tour time. I just checked with Sky Adventures, and they currently have availability for the 8:00am, 10:30am, and 11:30am tour times on 11/23 and 11/24. Any of these tour times will allow you to do the zip-lining tour first.

Re: your youngest step-grandchild’s age, what’s most important is the age she will be on the day you participate in the tour (in case Sky Adventures requests to see identification upon your arrival at their facilities). If she will be 12 on that day, she qualifies for the child discount. If she will be 13 on that day, she won’t qualify for the child discount but she also won’t need to pay the adult price because Sky Adventures provides student discounts for which we also have discounts. (The student rate applies to individuals who are 13-24 years of age). For your convenience, here are links to our adult, student, and child discounts for the tour:

Hola, Nikki & Ricky. Thank you for your prompt reply. You made everything extremely clear, and so I proceeded to the PuraVidaEh site and would like clarification about the “Discount Levels” I’ll need to address the following scenarios:

A – As I mentioned in my message from 11/09, we will be traveling as a group of 6 (1 child/student, 1 student, and 4 adults). In a conversation with the parent of the child today, there may be some hesitancy to participate in the La Fortuna Sky Trek Canopy Tour (Ziplining), Sky Walk Hanging Bridges Tour, And Sky Tram Aerial Tram Ride by both the child and one of the grandparents. That would result in 4 tours to book.

B – The child and grandparent may, however, wish to participate in the Sky Walk Hanging Bridges Tour And Sky Tram Aerial Tram Ride that may allow them to ride up the tram with the other members of our family and watch them sail off into the unknown. That would result in 2 additional tours to book.

C – Finally, prior to our arrival to our Arenal lodging, we will spend a few nights at the Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin where the child will participate in a day-long offering of exciting adventures, one of which is a smaller zip line. Should she reconsider her apprehension about zip lining and decide to join the adults in the Sky Trek combo tour, that would increase the booking number to 5. Heck, even Grandma may change her mind and thereby change the booking number to 6. With a very short notice, that would change the Discount Level to 3. Yikes.

Which “discount levels” would you suggest I purchase to best utilize our current scenarios? From what I can tell, Level 2 addresses scenario A, Level 1 address scenario B, and Level 3 addresses scenario C. I know these tours must be ordered in a timely fashion and, in order to maximize our discounts, is there a cut-off date by which we must apply?

Finally, I explored the 4 screens of discounts offered in Arenal / La Fortuna, and missed an offer from the Bogarin Trail (Garden) in La Fortuna. Did I miss that one?

              Best, Joseph Viani

              Hi Joseph!

Great questions! I’m happy to answer them for you. 🙂

Re: the membership level you’ll need. To start, this decision should be based on the number of discounts you’d like to request now (i.e., in advance), not how many you might need later. If you’d like to add (or remove) people at a later time, we can easily upgrade or downgrade the level you have to the level you need then–no problem there.

According to your example, you’d actually need a custom membership which would have a total cost of $24.98. Here’s a breakdown of that total:

4 people are interested in the discount for the Sky Trek, Sky Walk, and Sky Tram Combo right now, so you’d need a level 2 membership worth $14.99 (good for one discount for 4-5 people) to access it.

2 people (child and grandparent) are interested in the discount for the Sky Walk and Sky Tram Combo right now, so you’d need a level 1 membership worth $9.99 (good for one discount for 1-3 people) to access it.

We can create custom memberships for irregular arrangements like yours, so in this case, we’d create one that costs $24.98 so you can access both discounts–one for 4 people and one for 2 people.

With respect to potentially adding the child and/or the grandparent to the Sky Trek, Sky Walk, and Sky Tram Combo if either or both decide to go zip-lining after time spent at Hacienda Guachipelin (which is a fabulous spot, by the way–great pick!), that last-minute change will be subject to the tour operator’s availability (i.e., whether they have an extra spot or two to spare at the time you request the change). If there isn’t availability to add the child and/or grandparent, then the original plan for the tours would remain intact. If the tour operator can offer availability, though, then this is what would happen to the membership levels:

If one of the two people (the child or the grandparent) decides to go zip-lining: There would be no change to the membership levels. This is because you would have already purchased access to one tour discount for 4-5 people and one tour discount for 1-3 people, so bumping one person between membership levels wouldn’t make a difference.

If both (the child and the grandparent) want to go zip-lining: You’d need a level 3 membership (good for one tour discount for 6-8 people) in this case. A level 3 membership costs $19.99, so if this change was made (and assuming you paid $24.98 for the custom membership originally), we’d refund you the difference in cost, which would be $4.99.

Hopefully, the above makes sense, but if you’d like further clarification just let me know! 🙂 With respect to a timeline for orders, we require a minimum of 10 days’ notice to process any order for discounts. That said, we recommend submitting orders as soon as you’ve decided on your tour plan to maximize your chances of securing tour availability. Lastly, we don’t have a discount for the Bogarin Trail at the moment, unfortunately.

              Pura vida!

All was going well until I attempted to add our 6 “tours” to the Cart. For some reason there was no way to order the 1 “child” and the 1 “student” along with the 4 “adults.” So our Cart is inaccurate and we’d appreciate your help sorting out our order. Best, Joseph

                  Hi Joseph!

No problem! I can certainly sort this out for you. 🙂

Unfortunately, your shopping cart is unique to your computer, so we’re not able to see what’s in it. When you say the cart is inaccurate, what items are currently in it? To confirm, you can remove items from your cart at any time by visiting the cart page (https://puravidaeh.ca/cart-2/) and clicking on the blue circle with the white X in it, just to the left of the discount listing’s photo. Clicking on that X will delete the item from your cart, so if you need to clear everything out and start over, clicking on those Xs will do the trick.

For requesting the discounts, keep in mind that the adult, student, and child discounts are split across three pages (see the three links provided in my first response above for links to each). So, in order to request discounts for your group of 6 people, you should visit the adult discount page and request the quantity to be “4”, then visit the student page and request the quantity to be “1”, and lastly, visit the child discount page and request the quantity to be “1”. That will add three separate items (adult discounts, a student discount, and a child discount) to your shopping cart, even though all three discounts are for the same tour. The total price you see on the cart page will then reflect the total discounted rate for your group of 4 adults, 1 student, and 1 child.

Let me know if I can help in any other way! 🙂

I got it, Nikki. I’ll make the final booking for the Sky Adventure tomorrow and very grateful for this thread (and your guidance, of course). Thank you very much for the fabulous customer support. Not to mention the discounts. BTW, the family is looking into a canoe tour being offered through Arenal Observatory, and I’ve turned them onto your “Discounts by Location” site(s). If we decide to go with one that you offer, I’ll communicate with you about supersizing our Discount Pkg. –Joseph Viani

                      Good morning Joseph!

No problem at all! I’m happy to help. 🙂

For the canoeing tour that you’re considering, since you mentioned that you’ve already been in touch with the Arenal Observatory Lodge directly, would you mind making your request for that activity directly through the lodge? Though Costa Rica’s tourism industry is competitive, we aim to work together with our competitors, so we don’t accept discount orders for items that have previously been discussed with other companies, simply to avoid stepping on any toes. If you’ve been in touch with the lodge about a canoe tour that they offer, it would be best to give them your business for that tour, to be fair. Since you mentioned that you’ve talked to them about our discounts, I’d like to kindly ask you to let the lodge know that we’ve advised you to book the canoe tour through them. I’d hate for them to think that we were trying to steal you away and/or scoop up your business if you were in contact with them first. 🙂

Thank you so much for your understanding!!!

I completely understand. Part of the confusion is having more than one person planning activities. Thanks for the heads-up.
