Right off the bat, both Desafio Adventure Company and Pure Trek are great companies and operate fun canyoning tours. I don’t think you could go wrong with either one.

The above being said, the biggest difference we note between the two tour options is the level of thrill. We most often recommend Pure Trek’s Canyoning Tour to families with children who wish to experience canyoning because the tour operator’s minimum age limit to participate is 5 years. In contrast, Desafio Adventure Company’s minimum age limit to participate is 13 years.

From a logistics standpoint, Desafio Adventure Company offers canyoning tours three times daily (7am, 10am, and 1pm) and Pure Trek offers canyoning tours twice daily (7am and 12pm). Both companies include a meal in the cost of their tour. Desafio Adventure Company usually serves the meal after tour completion, as does Pure Trek when the 7am tour is selected. With Pure Trek’s 12pm tour, the meal is typically served before you go canyoning. Both companies also include round-trip transportation from La Fortuna hotels in the cost of their tour. Though the offices for both companies are located in different areas (Desafio Adventure Company’s office is located in downtown La Fortuna whereas Pure Trek’s office sits about a 10-minute drive outside of town), each runs their canyoning tour not far from the other, so I wouldn’t rely on location (or transportation) to make or break your decision.
