Tour operator’s description: With the establishment of Manuel Antonio National Park in 1972, the people of Costa Rica decided to preserve for future generations one of the most beautiful and bio-diverse areas in the world. Although it is the country’s smallest national park, the stunning beauty and diversity of wildlife in its 4.249 acres is what makes this place a must see for every visitor in the country. Manuel Antonio offers a charming combination of rain forest, beaches and coral reefs. This beautiful park is home to sloths, three species of monkeys (white faced, squirrel, howler), iguanas, and millions of colourful little land crabs. Some of the trails afford spectacular ocean views. Our naturalist guides will take you on an amazing jungle experience. The goal of the Manuel Antonio Expeditions team is to share and teach you about Manuel Antonio’s best nature secrets. Walk for about 3 miles on easy trails searching for unique animals and plants. During our tour you will learn about the symbiotic relationship between many animals and plants. Let us help you get your own ¨national geographic¨ type photos with your digital camera through any of our top of the line spotting scopes. The size of our groups tours are about 10 people max for each tour guide. For the mangrove boat tour, our experienced naturalist guides will take you on a special journey through this amazing habitat that features caimans, boa constrictors, crocodiles, monkeys and over 100 species of local and migrating birds. Damas Island is one of the last major mangrove areas, protected in the central pacific. This place fulfills an important role in Costa Rica’s rich biodiversity. It is not uncommon to spot herons, sand pipers, egrets and many other endemic or migrant bird species. You may get the chance to see the white-face monkeys up close or even see the rare silky anteater, all from the comfort of your boat. Our boats have capacity for 10 passengers and use 4 stroke engines to provide a smooth, comfortable ride. Damas Mangrove is one of the most recommended tours for wildlife in Manuel Antonio. Day and night tours are available, depending on high tide.

  1. For the Manuel Antonio National Park Tour and Damas Island Mangrove Boat Tour Combo, is it possible to do it in two separate days? We have two elderly people, 80 and 90 years old with us. 🙂 We’d like to minimize the activities per day. I’m thinking of a boat tour in the afternoon on the day we arrive Costa Rica. Then the park tour the next day. For the 3 mile hike, we may have to stop and rest often. We have 5 people in our party. Thanks.

    1. Josie –

Absolutely! In fact, the two activities are actually separate activities altogether; the combo tour option described above is simply a joining of the two separate activities into a one-day experience for travellers who would prefer to maximize their vacation time. If you would prefer to participate in the two activities separately, you can certainly do so (provided that the date you choose for participation in the Manuel Antonio National Park tour is not a Monday, as the park is closed to the public on this day of each week). In this case, you would be best to view the following two tours:

Manuel Antonio National Park Tour (https://puravidaeh.ca/manuel-antonio-national-park-tour-manuel-antonio/)

      Mangrove Boat Tour (https://puravidaeh.ca/damas-island-mangrove-boat-tour-manuel-antonio/)

Note: I caught your note about participating in the mangrove boat tour in the afternoon on the day you arrive into Costa Rica. Two quick points worth mentioning here…

      1. The mangrove boat tour is a tide-dependent activity. This means that it could run in the early morning, the late morning, the early afternoon, or the late afternoon, and the exact tour time that would be available to your group would depend on the exact date you plan to participate in the tour. The tour operator can confirm tour times in advance according to tide schedules, however unfortunately specific tour times (such as morning or afternoon tour times) cannot be requested for this activity since the tide cannot be changed. 🙁

      2. For planning to participate in a tour the afternoon you arrive into Costa Rica, I should ask, at what time does your flight arrive (and will you be flying into/out of San Jose)? I ask only because Manuel Antonio is a few hours’ drive from the SJO Airport, so in order to catch an afternoon activity, this would require an overnight flight that arrives into Costa Rica in the early morning and allows you enough time to exit the airport and get to Manuel Antonio in time to catch an afternoon tour.

      Pura vida! 🙂
